"MoCA reviews Chennai Airport T2 expansion progress, calling for the Phase II works to be completed on schedule."
The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI), L&T, and the Project Management Consultant (PMC) to expedite the Phase II expansion of the T2 terminal at Chennai International Airport, following a review meeting chaired by Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha on Monday.
According to the ministry, Secretary Sinha emphasized that projects of national importance must be completed on schedule and instructed the stakeholders to immediately convene and resolve pending issues to ensure timely completion of the T2 expansion.
The Phase II expansion of the New Integrated Terminal Building covers 86,135 sq.m and is being developed to boost passenger handling capacity to 35 million passengers per annum. The project aims to enhance the overall travel experience by enabling smoother movement, improved accessibility, and accommodating growing air traffic in the region.
In a post on X, MoCA said: “During the review, it was clearly instructed to complete the National Important Project within the timelines and that AAI, L&T, and PMC should sit together to resolve issues immediately to complete the T2 Expansion Project on priority.”
