Metro's airport line set to be extended.

The Delhi Metro's high-speed airport line, which currently links New Delhi to Dwarka Sector 21, will be extended till Dwarka Sector 25, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Sunday.

The proposal for an underground station and a tender for tunnelling and other works was floated recently and the bidders can make submissions till August 14.

This underground station will be built near an upcoming international convention centre.

With this, the line is all set for a 1.5-km-long extension. Construction activities for that as well as the stations would follow soon after the bids are received.

Confirming that work for the new station is being executed, a DMRC spokesperson said bids for the project would be accepted till August 14 and the tender will be opened on August 16.

The 23-km-long Airport corridor (Orange Line), which struggled to attract commuters at one point, has six stations.

Fewer stations means that it covers a long distance in a relatively short time.

Trains on this line run every 10 minutes between 8 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. and it takes around 20 minutes to reach the Indira Gandhi International Airport from the New Delhi metro station on this line.
