MeitY and MHI Jointly Invite Proposals from Industry and Academia for EV Sub-System Development.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), has announced a joint call for proposals aimed at developing critical sub-systems for electric vehicles (EVs). This initiative, launched on Monday, focuses on fostering innovation in key areas such as EV chargers, charging infrastructure, electric motors, battery management systems, and telematics, according to a statement from MeitY.
The program seeks to advance the development of essential EV components, including electric drivetrains with motors and drive controllers, versatile EV charging infrastructure with AC and DC capabilities, solutions for managing grid disturbances caused by EVs, and intelligent, secure battery management systems.
This initiative encourages participation from research institutions, startups, and industry players. Selected proposals will receive financial support from MeitY, while MHI will provide standardization and testing assistance.
S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, highlighted the potential for innovators and researchers to collaborate with industry and academia to drive the development of indigenous products for the EV ecosystem. He encouraged interested parties to submit their proposals through the MeitY website.
Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary of MHI, emphasized that the joint initiative will strengthen the development of homegrown technologies in the EV sector.
