MCG Plans Commissioning of Construction Waste Facility by Next February.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen the collection, processing and utilisation of construction and demolition (C&D) waste across the city, including plans to establish a new 400-tonne-per-day (TPD) processing plant by February 2027.

The civic body presented the plan during a recent review meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), outlining measures to improve waste management infrastructure and enhance recycling of construction debris.

Officials said Gurugram requires 12 C&D waste collection points under the prescribed norm of one collection facility for every 25 square kilometres. Currently, collection centres are operational at Basai and Begampur Khatola, while facilities at Babupur and Daulatabad are expected to become operational by the end of the month.

To further strengthen waste collection, MCG has identified 20 locations for secondary C&D waste collection centres across the city. The proposed sites include sectors 4, 21, 22, 38, 40, 46 and 47, Palam Vihar C2 Block, Sarai STP, Ullawas Road, Kadipur, Sector 56 and 57 boosting stations, Atul Kataria Chowk green belt, Kadarpur and a vacant plot in Baliyawas village, among others.

“We have identified 20 sites to be developed as secondary waste collection centres for C&D waste,” an MCG official said.

The corporation also shared details of C&D waste processing and utilisation. During the last financial year, around 3.3 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of processed C&D waste were sold in the private market, while government agencies procured 11,584 MT of recycled material.

According to MCG estimates, the city is expected to generate nearly 1,100 TPD of processed C&D products. The civic body has set a target of ensuring offtake of 100 TPD by government agencies and 1,000 TPD by private entities.

As part of its strategy to boost demand for recycled construction materials, MCG plans to launch information, education and communication (IEC) campaigns to raise public awareness and encourage the use of processed C&D waste in municipal and infrastructure projects.

The proposed initiatives are aimed at improving waste management practices, reducing environmental impact and supporting sustainable urban development in Gurugram.
