In a strategic move to meet the escalating demand for electric vehicles (EVs), Log9 Materials, the IIT Roorkee incubated venture, is set to significantly expand its lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility's capacity. Established earlier this year, the facility's capacity is slated to surge from the existing 50 MWh to an impressive 1 GWh.
Additionally, Log9 Materials is working fervently to ramp up its battery pack manufacturing capacity to a substantial 2 gigawatt hours (GWh) within the next 15-18 months. The announcement was made by Akshay Singhal, Co-founder and CEO of Log9 Materials, who highlighted the company's commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation in the deep-tech battery sector.
Singhal revealed, "Our lithium-ion manufacturing facility has a capacity of 50 MWh, that needs to be expanded to 1 GWh. So, a couple of GWh is what we are planning to do in the next 2-2.5 years."
Having raised an impressive $40 million in a series B funding round in January this year, Log9 Materials has been on an expansion spree, focusing on enhancing manufacturing capacities to cater to the burgeoning demand for EVs. Singhal emphasized the company's growth, stating, "We have grown our battery pack manufacturing capacity from 40 megawatt hours (MWh) in 2021 to 250 MWh today."
The advanced battery start-up is strategically positioning itself in the commercial and industrial segments of the EV market. Singhal outlined Log9's market presence, stating, "We continue to be in the commercial utility space for 2-wheelers for food delivery and e-commerce delivery. In 4-wheelers, we are into cargo vehicles."
Log9 Materials, with an eye on future prospects, aims to diversify its portfolio to include large trucks and buses in addition to its existing focus on 2, 3, and 4-wheelers. Singhal emphasized the company's commitment to optimizing costs, improving technology, and tailoring battery solutions to the unique conditions of the Indian market. As Log9 Materials continues to innovate and expand its footprint, the company is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of electric mobility in India.
