Mahindra Group has announced plans to set up its largest integrated manufacturing facility for automobiles and tractors in Nagpur, Maharashtra, marking a major expansion of its manufacturing footprint in the State.
The proposed facility will come up on 1,500 acres in Vidarbha and will be supported by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar. Once fully operational in 2028, the plant will have an annual production capacity of over five lakh vehicles and one lakh tractors, making it Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing complex in the country.
The automotive facility will manufacture vehicles across multiple powertrains, including internal combustion engines (ICE), electric vehicles (EVs), and future technologies, catering to both domestic and global markets. The tractor unit is expected to further strengthen Mahindra’s leadership in the farm equipment segment, addressing growing domestic demand as well as key export markets.
In addition to the Nagpur project, Mahindra said it would acquire land in the Igatpuri–Nashik region to expand existing product and engine capacities and to support the growth of its advanced technology business. Mahindra currently operates manufacturing facilities in Maharashtra at Chakan near Pune and in Nashik.
With these initiatives, the group plans to invest a total of ₹15,000 crore in Maharashtra over a 10-year period and will acquire more than 2,000 acres across three locations to reinforce its manufacturing presence.
Welcoming the announcement, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the investment would generate significant employment, accelerate regional development in Vidarbha and surrounding areas, and strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a leading manufacturing hub.
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO, Auto and Farm Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said the new facility would support the company’s next generation of vehicles and tractors by bringing together scale, flexibility and advanced technology within a single integrated footprint. The investment, he added, underscored Mahindra’s commitment to the “Make in India for the World” initiative and deepened its partnership with the State.
