LOHUM Announces ₹2,000 Crore Investment in New Krishnagiri Plant.

Greater Noida-based LOHUM, a leader in sustainable battery raw materials through recycling, repurposing, and low-carbon refining, is set to invest ₹2,000 crore over six years in a new plant in Krishnagiri, western Tamil Nadu. The plant will produce Cathode Active Material (CAM) for battery manufacturing.

LOHUM has acquired 65 acres for the project and expects to begin production at the 20-GWh facility in 18 months. "In the first phase, we plan to invest ₹400 crore over two years," said Sachin Maheshwari, Head of Corporate Development at LOHUM, during the CII-UAE Investopia event on Wednesday. The CAM produced will supply battery manufacturers such as Ola, Exide, TVS, and Amara Raja.

The company currently operates seven plants in Noida, one in Gujarat, one in Krishnagiri, and one in the UAE. The new Krishnagiri plant will recycle 20,000 tonnes of batteries annually, producing cobalt, nickel, and lithium. Initially, the plant will produce between 5 to 10 GWh of CAM, eventually scaling up to 20 GWh.

Incentives for the plant include a Production Linked Incentive and a capital expenditure subsidy from the Tamil Nadu government. Maheshwari highlighted that LOHUM is well-funded and plans to use its equity to build the facility while securing working capital for other needs. "We are not a start-up anymore. We are profitable and quite sizable," he added, without disclosing financial details.

Regarding a potential IPO, Maheshwari said, "Everything is open."

Founded six years ago, LOHUM has evolved from a start-up to the world’s only company with an end-to-end in-house ecosystem for battery recycling, repurposing, transition materials refining, and CAM production.

In March, LOHUM raised $54 million (₹450 crore) in Series B funding from investors including Singularity Growth, Baring Private Equity, Cactus Venture Partners, and Venture East. This funding aims to expand its market presence, scale recycling operations across India, and enter new markets in North America, the EU, West Asia, Africa, and Asia.

As a climate-tech company, LOHUM provides single-point lithium-ion battery recycling and reuse solutions to address industry-wide challenges in sustainable energy storage. The critical materials recovered and recirculated by LOHUM help lower battery costs, reduce mining dependency, and enhance energy security.
