Kundannoor flyover work to commence from month end.

The Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) is all set to begin the work for a six-lane flyover at Kundannoor Junction by month end.

The date and the chief guest for the foundation-stone laying function have not been finalised. As was announced earlier, preparatory works will be done prior to commencement of piling. A Muvattupuzha-based firm had won the bid to construct the six-lane flyover.

Serpentine queue

With barricades put up by PWD (NH wing) for Vyttila flyover work resulting in serpentine queue of vehicles on all directions, the RBDCK has chalked out plans to develop service roads and slip roads before commencing flyover construction at Kundannoor. Piling would begin only after preparatory works for diverting traffic through service and slip roads were over, official sources said. “For this, the tarred portion of service roads will be increased to enable to-and-fro movement of vehicles. The slip roads towards Aroor side will enable diversion of vehicles through either side when flyover work is on at the junction,” they added.

Though PWD assured two-lane traffic along NH Bypass when works are under way, extension of barricades has left little more than single-lane space on the junction’s southern side, choking movement of vehicles.
