KSINC plans feasibility study on hazardous cargo movement.

The Kerala shipping and inland navigation corporation (KSINC) plans to study the feasibility of shifting the movement of hazardous cargo to water transport in the state in the wake of rising road accidents involving petroleum tanker trucks.

Higher officials in the corporation said the study was being planned as the government was seriously considering shifting the movement of hazardous cargo to water transport and the road and rail transport networks in the state were heavily saturated. The Kochi-based corporation is a state government undertaking engaged in inland water transport, tourism, construction and repair of vessels.

'The hazardous cargo for the study includes hazardous gases, petroleum, oils and lubricants (POL) products, industrial chemicals, hazardous waste and other material. The consultant who wins the bid for the study is expected to explore various factors and make an action plan accordingly,' said Prem Krishnan V R, commercial manager.
