Kerala granted additional Rs. 200 crore for railway projects.
The state has been granted an additional amount of Rs. 200 crore for railway projects as a recognition for utilizing all the money allocated in the railway budget. This is the second consecutive year that the state has been been given additional grants for railway projects.
The state had earlier failed to utilize the full amount allocated in the railway budget, and as a result the funds were diverted to projects in Tamil Nadu.
The allocated funds would be used to complete these projects - Angamali-Sabari track (Rs. 3 crore); Punalur-Chenkotta guage transfer (Rs. 30 crore); Pollachi-Palakkad, Pollachi-Coimbatore guage transfer (Rs. 73 crore), doubling of tracks: Mulanthuruthy-Kuruppunthara (Rs. 17 crore), Chengannur-Chingavanam (Rs. 39 crore), Chingavanam-Kuruppunthara (Rs. 22 crore), Haripad-Ambalapuzha (Rs. 15 crore); Kochuveli terminal second phase development, and one pit line and 2 stabling lines for Ernakulam marshalling yard (Rs. 1 crore).
Officials are confident that the additional grant would add an impetus to the various projects.
The lapsed funds from various parts of the country have been allocated as additional grants to projects that had fully utilized the budget money.
Kerala now needs to utilize the additional amount before March 31.
