Kakatiya Canal to be Restored by May 2016.

In an attempt to ensure irrigation facility to the lower ayucut region, the irrigation department has sent a proposal to the State government to take up restoration works to the entire stretch of the Kakatiya Canal, at an expense of worth Rs. 129 crore.

Chief Engineer (CE) of irrigation (projects) and Command Area Development (CAD) G Anil Kumar told 'Express' that Irrigation minister T Harish Rao had inspected the entire stretch of Kakatiya canal recently and directed officials to prepare an action plan for restoration of the canal.

The officials are taking steps to complete the tender process and restore the canal before May 2016.

He added that the restoration work will also provide both drinking and irrigation facilities to Warangal and will avoid water wastage. He said they have already taken up restoration works.
