ITO metro stretch now awaits CMRS inspection.

A day after amendment to the Metro Railway General Rules, 2013 was notified by the Urban Development Ministry, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday swiftly sent a letter to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) requesting him to inspect the Mandi House to ITO stretch.

The Metro Railway General Rules, 2013 were amended and the changes notified on Tuesday to allow operations on single-line sections in metro railways. The move is not only set to benefit the Delhi Metro but also expedite the opening of the first metro stretch in Chennai. The Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate line, of which the ITO station is a part, is an extension of the existing Badarpur-Central Secretariat Line (violet line). The construction work on the single line, Mandi House to ITO section was completed by DMRC, in January, this year. But operations on this 971-metre section could not be started as safety inspection could not be carried out as per provisions of the Metro Railway General Rules.
