Indus Towers to expand presence in Gujarat.

Even as it continues to do away with diesel generators (DG) to usher in green technology, Indus Towers is looking to expand its presence in Gujarat. The leading telecom tower company is planning to add 300 more such towers in Gujarat.

With over 10,000 towers and over 23,000 tenancies in Gujarat, Indus offers its users a near perfect uptime of 99.99 per cent across the state. To this, the company plans to add another 300 towers with over 2000 tenancies in 2015-16.

According to Thomas Phillip, Circle CEO - Gujarat, Indus Towers Ltd., typically a tower costs anywhere between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs 28 lakh, depending on varied factors.

Apparently, Gujarat has been in the forefront of Indus' environment friendly solutions with the circle having the highest number of 'Green Sites' in comparison to other circles, at 5,022 sites in 2015. These Green Sites use advanced energy solutions such as fast charging batteries, the company is driving in its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint in the circle as well as the country. As a part of its efforts the company has been to reduce diesel consumption by 1.329 million litres - a reduction of around 20 per cent as compared to the last financial year.

Of the total 10500 towers, about 50 per cent have been converted into green sites. However, in next 2-3 years, Indus aims at 70-80 per cent of green sites among total sites, said Phillip.
