India Targets ₹3 Lakh Cr Defence Production, ₹50,000 Cr Exports by 2029: Rajnath Singh.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday announced an ambitious goal to double India’s defence production to ₹3 lakh crore and boost defence exports to ₹50,000 crore by 2029. This marks a significant jump from the current levels of ₹1.5 lakh crore in production and ₹25,000 crore in exports for 2024-25.
The announcement is part of the government’s broader push for self-reliance in defence, aiming to increase domestic manufacturing from 65% to 100% in the coming years.
Singh made the statement while inaugurating two major defence production lines at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) Nashik facility—once known for assembling Russian-origin fighters like the MiG-21, MiG-27, and Su-30 MKI. These new lines will manufacture the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A and the Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40).
During the event, he also flagged off the first public flight of the Tejas Mk1A produced at the newly launched facility, marking a milestone in India's indigenous fighter jet program.
