IIT Hyderabad to Launch India’s First Nuclear Engineering Design Hub.

The Indian Institute of Technology (Hyderabad) will establish ‘CODENE’, the country’s first Centre of Design Excellence in Nuclear Engineering, marking a significant step in advancing nuclear technology education and research in India.

The institute signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with CEEPL India and Dassault Systèmes during Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, on Monday.

According to IIT Hyderabad, the initiative aligns with India’s long-term civil nuclear expansion goals. In a post on X, the institute noted that the Shanti Act has opened the country’s civil nuclear sector to private participation, while the government aims to achieve 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047.

It added that achieving this target would require the development of world-class engineering talent and advanced design capabilities in the nuclear sector.

The proposed centre is expected to strengthen India’s capabilities in nuclear engineering design and support the creation of a skilled workforce for the country’s expanding nuclear energy programme.
