Gurugram–Sohna Elevated Corridor Suffers Cave-In Near Subhash Chowk.

The Gurugram–Sohna elevated flyover in Gurugram suffered another road cave-in near Subhash Chowk, according to local residents.

Authorities have barricaded the affected stretch as a precautionary measure to ensure pedestrian safety and to prevent vehicles from falling into the depression.

This is not the first such incident on the four-lane corridor. In December 2023, a five-foot-deep and two-foot-wide pothole had formed in front of SD Adarsh Vidyalaya. Around eight months later, another sinkhole measuring about two feet in width and nearly eight metres in depth appeared in the same vicinity.

Earlier, in August 2020, a portion of the road collapsed during flyover construction, leading to a temporary halt in work.

Residents said repeated sinking incidents are linked to a sewer pipeline laid beneath the road, which they claim has been prone to frequent damage and subsidence, contributing to structural instability.

Some locals also alleged that the project was rushed after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in Haryana in 2014, and that the then Public Works Department minister, Rao Narbir Singh, oversaw construction without adequate inspections. These claims have not been independently verified.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the long-term durability and engineering quality of the heavily used Gurugram–Sohna corridor.
