The Gujarat government recently announced its ambitious Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025, aiming to attract ₹35,000 crore in new investments into the state's burgeoning electronics sector.
The policy is strategically designed to bolster the state's nascent semiconductor ecosystem by fostering the establishment of upstream industries. Gujarat is currently home to four semiconductor projects in various stages of construction, and this new policy seeks to create a robust supply chain to support them.
The new policy will specifically encourage manufacturers of a wide range of electronic components to set up operations in Gujarat. This includes producers of Multi-Layer and High-Density Interconnect (HDI) Printed Circuit Boards (PCB), Lithium-ion cells, Surface Mount Devices (SMD) passive components, display and camera modules, electronic parts, and related machinery, an official release stated.
A key highlight of the policy is the substantial support offered to projects approved by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). These projects will be eligible for a 100 percent top-up on central government support, effectively providing dual incentive benefits from both the central and state governments. Furthermore, Gujarat has guaranteed timely disbursement of its incentives, pledging to release its assistance within 30 days of the Central government disbursing its own.
