Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Reviews ₹11,735 Crore Development Projects.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently conducted a high-level review of 12 key development projects totaling ₹11,735 crore, spanning tourism, metro rail, and industrial infrastructure across the state. The meeting, held in Gandhinagar, underscored the government's commitment to integrated growth aligned with the vision of 'Viksit Gujarat' and 'Viksit Bharat'.
Tourism Sector Sees ₹4,184 Crore Investment
Projects led by the Tourism Department accounted for a significant portion of the review, with investments totaling ₹4,184 crore. These initiatives aim to boost tourism across various regions:
Holistic development of Ambaji
Restoration of the Mahakali Mata Temple in Pavagadh
Mangrove and creek development along the coast
Transformation of Mokarsagar in Porbandar into a tourism hub
Work on the Dwarka Corridor
Enhancement of Shivrajpur and Somnath beaches
Development of tourist facilities at Kantharpur Mahakali Vad and Dharoi Dam
In Vadnagar, five ongoing projects were specifically reviewed, including an aqua screen projection and musical fountain at Sharmistha Lake, a public plaza and interpretation centre near the railway station, beautification of the Saptarshi Aro and Dai Lake, and a music museum dedicated to Tana-Riri.
Dholera SIR and Metro Rail Projects Under Scrutiny
Infrastructure and social infrastructure projects worth ₹7,551 crore within the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) were also evaluated. These critical projects include:
An international airport
An expressway
The Dholera–Bhimnath railway line
Development of essential community facilities such as hospitals, schools, fire stations, and food courts
Upcoming plans for Dholera SIR also encompass residential complexes, hotels, malls, landscaping, and a tent city. A significant environmental initiative to create a 516-hectare "Green Wall" through mangrove and forest buffer development was also discussed.
Additionally, the Chief Minister received updates on Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project, specifically the Motera to Mahatma Mandir corridor, and the progress of two corridors under the Surat Metro Rail Project.
Directives for Timely Completion and Coordination
Chief Minister Patel emphasized the need for officials to complete all projects within stipulated timelines and stressed the importance of frequent field visits and follow-ups to maintain quality.
To enhance inter-departmental coordination, he directed the High-Level Committee led by the Chief Secretary to hold regular meetings. He also instructed senior secretaries to maintain continuous engagement with central agencies for projects involving Union ministries.
The high-level meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, the Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor Dr. Hasmukh Adhia, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM M.K. Das, Advisor to the CM S.S. Rathore, Additional Principal Secretary Avantika Singh, Secretary Dr. Vikrant Pandey, and other senior officials.
