Google to Set Up First Safety Engineering Centre in India, in Hyderabad.

The Telangana government has partnered with Google to set up the first Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in India, which will be located in Hyderabad. This GSEC will be the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, following Tokyo, and will be the fifth globally, with similar centres in Dublin, Munich, and Malaga.

The GSEC will serve as a specialized cybersecurity hub aimed at developing advanced security and online safety products tailored to the Indian context. It will focus on cutting-edge research, AI-driven security solutions, and creating a collaborative platform for cybersecurity experts and researchers.

In addition to enhancing security capabilities, the centre will foster skill development, create job opportunities, and strengthen India’s cybersecurity ecosystem.

Google, which already has its largest employee base in Hyderabad, is also constructing its largest office globally outside of its headquarters in the city. The announcement of the GSEC was made during the Google for India 2024 Conclave on October 3, leading to intense competition among states to host the facility.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed pride in Hyderabad’s selection, stating, “This partnership is a testament to Hyderabad’s standing as a leading IT and innovation hub in the country and the world.”
