Gates Foundation backs sanitation projects.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation along with the UK department of international development has decided to use part of its $1.5 million grant towards developing innovative sanitation solutions in India.

The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, Infrastructure Development Corporation and Administrative Staff College of India will get the grants.

It will support innovative solutions for optimal use of water resources and the concept of non-networked solutions in cities, as the sewerage system does not work fine in most places.

Using the grant, the ASCI will identify ways to deliver sustainable sanitation services in Warangal, and CEPT would bring equitable sanitation services to small and medium towns in Maharashtra. The IDC will work on creating partnerships for urban sanitation services in Chitradurga near Bangalore.
