Flyover to come up at Eachanari.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct a flyover for one km at Eachanari at a cost of ₹39 crore.

An official of the NHAI told The Hindu that works have commenced for the four-lane flyover that would be six metres high.

The flyover at Eachanari was part of the project to widen the Pollachi Road. The widening works of Pollachi road from Aachipatti to Eachanari, covering a total distance of 26.8 km, were over for 19.2 km.

The total land acquisition for the project was 56.8 acres and disbursement of compensation was on at three villages. The Government was releasing funds for land acquisition in phases. The acquisition would be completed in a couple of months, he said.

An official of the Transport Department said the NHAI has sought traffic diversion to facilitate the flyover work. Vehicle movement has to be blocked for 4.2 km from Karpagam College. Vehicles on either side (Coimbatore to Pollachi and Pollachi to Coimbatore) would have to travel nearly 6 km extra and pass through toll plazas. “We are looking at shorter, alternative routes,” the official said.

The plan would be discussed with the District Collector after a study and the traffic would be diverted only after getting his approval. Traffic diversion was already in place for the Ukkadam flyover work, the official said.
