Flood protection wall completed in Mohmand Agency
Peshawar: To protect 4,000 residences from the flood, the government has completed the construction work of the 400 ft flood protection wall in Pratha Kale, Mohmand Agency with a total cost of over Rs. 2.4 million.
'We are extremely thankful to the Government of Pakistan for this project. The quality of the wall is out standing and saved our fields and houses from the flood waters' said an elderly community member of the village.
He further said that, 'Every year the flood inflicts heavy damage upon our crops and houses, but thanks to the flood wall, our homes are safe and our crops are irrigated with the right amount of water.'
According to the Press Release issued by the FATA Secretariat, last year the community suffered from the severe flood that destroyed not only their homes but also millions of rupees of crops in the village.
Regarding the horrific flood the Additional Political Agent of Mohmand Agency Mr Shahidullah said that the community of Pratha Kale were facing serious difficulties during monsoons and other rainy seasons, as the waters flow through the agricultural fields, ruining the crops and severely affecting the livelihoods of the local community.
He continued that since most of the houses in the area are constructed of mud, excess floodwater seriously damages the homes of the locals. Moreover, streets in the village are unpaved, and they become impassable with floodwater, overflowing from the streams. Therefore the government has started this project on a priority basis.
