Fissures in TPCC over Proposed Changes to Pranahita Project.

The proposed changes to the Pranahita-Chevella project design have caused fissures within the Telangana Congress. While some party leaders want to take expert opinion before opposing the proposal to change the design or location of the project, some others want to oppose the change of project tooth and nail for ‘political mileage.’

The Congress Legislature Party (TCLP) met recently to discuss various issues confronting the state.

The meet, it is learnt, deliberated upon the proposal of the TRS government to change the design of Pranahita-Chevella project. Speaking at the meeting, MP Palvai Goverdhan Reddy said the present design of the project will not get national status. 'There must be some changes in the project,' he said and also reportedly advised his party members not to oppose the changes without knowing the nitty-gritty.

Palvai did not toe the line of the TRS government but expressed the view of a Parliamentary Standing Committee on water resources as the project will not get national status if it is taken up with the present design.

The MP reportedly suggested that a meeting of irrigation experts be held to know the benefits of the changes in the design or location of the project.

Sources said the idea was opposed by a section of leaders. 'We should not go into technical issues. The issue should be seen politically and the party should oppose any move to change the design or location of the project,' they argued.
