Dr. Basu Eye Hospital to Launch Five New Hospitals in India Within 5 Years

Dr Basu Eye Hospital and Jagat Pharma, an Ayurvedic eye care provider, have announced an ambitious plan to expand their footprint by opening five new hospitals across India within the next five years. Currently operating two hospitals in Delhi and Bareilly, the expansion aims to provide their specialised Ayurvedic-based eye care to a wider audience, with initial focus on metro cities such as Maharashtra and Bangalore.

Dr Basu Eye Hospital offers a unique approach to eye care, combining traditional Ayurvedic medicine with modern diagnostics. They claim to effectively treat a variety of eye diseases, including cataracts (up to 70% maturity), diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

Speaking about the expansion, Dr Mandeep Singh Basu, founder of Dr Basu Eye Hospital and Jagat Pharma, shared insights into the funding and costs. “We will be funding the expansion ourselves, without needing investors. The cost for opening a new hospital is relatively low because we purchase our own machinery. It typically costs around 50 lakh rupees for the total machinery required for diagnosis, with infrastructure costs ranging from 20 to 25 lakh rupees. Thus, the total cost to open a new hospital is approximately one crore rupees. Since we don't perform surgeries, our hospitals are primarily focused on optometry (OPT), where patients can come in for diagnosis, receive treatment, and then leave," he explained.

Dr Basu Eye Hospital claims that their Ayurvedic treatments are more affordable compared to traditional surgeries and modern medical treatments. For instance, cataract surgery can cost between 50,000 to 1 lakh rupees, while their 5 to 6-month treatment plan for cataracts, without surgery, is only 20 to 25,000 rupees, provided the maturity of the cataract is up to 70%.

Dr Basu also shared future expansion plans, stating that their hospitals treat 80 to 90 patients daily and are looking to increase their international presence. The hospital's Ayurvedic eye care treatments have garnered interest from patients abroad, with exports to several countries, including a targeted market in the Middle East. Moreover, the hospital treats rare conditions like color blindness, offering a cure where conventional medicine does not.

In addition to opening new branches, Dr Basu's hospital is working to increase its online presence. The hospital plans to launch new products and make existing treatments available for purchase online, aiming to provide easier access to Ayurvedic eye care for patients worldwide.

Through this expansion, Dr Basu Eye Hospital seeks to broaden its reach and impact, reinforcing its commitment to providing accessible and affordable Ayurvedic eye care to more people across India and beyond.
