Delhi LG reviews infrastructure revamp plan for five priority road corridors.

Delhi Government Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the proposed redevelopment of five key road corridors in the national capital, with work on the stretches expected to begin soon.

Chairing a review meeting to assess coordination between the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) and various road-owning agencies, the Lieutenant Governor said the transformation of these high-traffic corridors should focus on making them free of road dust and associated ambient air pollution, in line with the framework outlined by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

He emphasised that the redevelopment should also help bring citizens closer to these public spaces, fostering a sense of ownership that would improve safety, security and maintenance, while also creating usable open and recreational areas along the corridors.

According to officials, the project includes a comprehensive stormwater drainage system designed to prevent flooding and ensure that silt is not left behind after rainfall. The system is expected to improve traffic flow during monsoons and reduce dust pollution caused by dried silt on roads.

The plan also features the development of a scientific green central verge with grass cover and a piped irrigation system, aimed at preventing soil erosion and reducing dependence on water tankers, which often contribute to traffic congestion.

In addition, the corridors will include integrated pedestrian pathways and cycle tracks, along with public utilities and resting shelters to improve accessibility and commuter convenience.
