Delhi Jal Board Allocates ₹735 Crore to Modernise City’s Water and Sewage Infrastructure.
The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has released nearly ₹735 crore across 68 assembly constituencies to modernise the city’s water and sewerage systems, marking the largest constituency-level fund release in the agency’s history.
Of the total amount, ₹408.95 crore has been allocated for major infrastructure projects, including pipeline laying, replacement of sewer lines, construction of underground reservoirs, and augmentation of water supply networks. Another ₹326 crore has been earmarked for maintenance, desilting, repairs, and service improvements to enhance the efficiency and reliability of existing systems, DJB officials said.
Water Minister Pravesh Verma highlighted that the decentralised fund release would allow local MLAs to address area-specific needs. “Our goal is clear: uninterrupted clean water and a functional sewer network in every part of Delhi. These funds have already been released, and work is underway,” he said.
The board has put in place a strict monitoring and auditing mechanism via its central project management unit. All projects will be geo-tagged and tracked in real time to ensure timely execution and efficient utilisation of funds, DJB stated.
Delhi Cantonment and New Delhi constituencies are excluded from this initiative, as sewerage and water projects in these areas are managed by separate authorities.
