CM inaugurates development works in 38 unauthorised colonies.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday inaugurated development works in 38 unauthorised colonies in the vicinity of Badarpur here, read a statement issued by the Delhi government.

The government said drains, lanes and streets would be constructed in these 38 colonies at a cost of Rs. 101.19 crore and would benefit around 4 lakh residents.

The inauguration was also attended by Flood and Irrigation Minister Satyendar Jain and local MLA N.D. Sharma.

“This is a historic occasion...as many as 980 lanes will be constructed in a single Assembly constituency in one go...this is probably the first time in the history of the country that development work of this kind has been taken up in one location simultaneously,” Mr. Kejriwal said.

“The Assembly elections are a year away. If this work is not completed by December 2019, then go ahead and do not vote for me. I will come back to inaugurate these projects, which have been promised to you today [Saturday] in December...governments of different parties have come and gone but they could not accomplish in 70 years what we have done in just four years,” he added.

The Delhi government has been striving for a better life for the residents of the unauthorised colonies of Delhi since it came to power, the statement said. Work of roads, lanes, drains, sewer lines, water pipelines and street lights have been carried out in a huge number of colonies in the last four years by the Delhi government, the statement said. It added that the total length of lanes and street to be constructed under the project was 101.88 km while the total length of drains to be constructed was 237.81 km.

“The completion of work will be done in a phase-wise manner with the first phase completing in September 2019 and the last in December 2019. The project will be executed by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department,” the statement added.
