"Chhattisgarh Cabinet Greenlights Construction of 1.8 Million Rural Homes in Inaugural Session"

In a landmark decision, the recently inaugurated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Chhattisgarh, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, marked its first Cabinet meeting by approving the construction of 1.8 million houses in the state. This initiative, falling under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin, aims to expedite infrastructure development projects across the region.

The BJP had pledged, under the "Modi Ki Guarantee for Chhattisgarh," to greenlight the proposal for constructing housing units in its inaugural cabinet meeting. The move comes after the BJP's electoral victory, ending five years of Congress rule in the state. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, along with his deputies Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, were sworn in last week.

BJP spokesperson Sanjay Shrivastava highlighted the Congress government's previous reluctance to participate in the national-level Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana launched in 2016. Shrivastava noted that the Congress-led government, under Bhupesh Baghel, had refrained from contributing its share to the scheme, which aimed to provide permanent housing to 1.87 million economically disadvantaged families, with a central and state expenditure ratio of 60:40.

While the Congress spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, Shrivastava emphasized the BJP's commitment to prioritizing infrastructure development, particularly addressing issues such as poor road conditions due to lack of maintenance, which had resonated with voters during the elections.

In addition to housing, the BJP government has undertaken ambitious promises, including providing tap water in every household within the next two years. The guarantees also extend to the development of a State Capital Region (SCR), akin to the National Capital Region (NCR) in New Delhi. The proposed SCR will encompass key areas such as Raipur, Naya Raipur, Durg, and Bhilai, the industrial town housing SAIL’s flagship entity, Bhilai Steel Plant. The BJP government is set to embark on these initiatives promptly to fulfill its electoral commitments and enhance the overall development of Chhattisgarh.
