CCEA nod for financial assistance to medical colleges.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved a scheme to provide financial assistance for medical colleges to upgrade infrastructure to increase seats. While the actual increase would depend on proposals state and central government medical colleges send, a provision has been made for enhancing infrastructure for augmenting 10,000 seats. Health Ministry officials say the increase will take four five years.
The scheme is expected to cost Rs. 10,000 crore of which around 75% will be paid by the Centre and the rest by states. For North Eastern States and special category states, 90 per cent of the funds will be put in by the centre and 10 per cent by the states.
