The Bihar state cabinet recently approved the release of ₹115 crore from the state plan fund to the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) for the development of the primary corridor of the Patna Metro project. A portion of the allocated funds will be utilized by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for various activities, including track work, installation of lifts and escalators, and the supply of train sets.
In addition, the cabinet approved a proposal from the Home (Police) Department to enhance policing in urban Patna. As part of this initiative, the state will add three Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), three police inspectors, nine sub-inspectors, 18 assistant sub-inspectors, and 120 constables to strengthen law enforcement in the city.
The cabinet also cleared the creation of two Assistant Town Commissioner positions and three Chief Executive Officer roles within the Patna Municipal Corporation and the Nagar Parishads in the urban area of Patna to bolster local governance.
Further, a proposal for the creation of new posts for the newly formed revenue circles was approved. These include the Patna Sadar, Patliputra, Patna City, and Deedarganj circles, which were carved out of the original Patna Sadar Circle.
Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned the establishment of an integrated town management unit for Patna, which will operate under the Patna district magistrate. The unit will be staffed by an official from the Bihar Administrative Service cadre at the additional district magistrate level, supported by 19 typists, eight drivers, and 14 peons.
Finally, the cabinet authorized the creation of 210 new posts across the state's Nagar Panchayats, with an estimated annual expenditure of ₹9.74 crore to support local governance and administrative functions.
