Brandix to start operations in Feb

Visakhapatnam: Sri Lanka-based apparel exporter Brandix, which is setting up a special economic zone on 1,000 acres in Visakhapatnam district, would start commercial operations from February 2008.

The first phase of the Brandix India Apparel City would be ready by the first quarter of 2008. The company is investing $55 million in infrastructure in this phase, Reshan Wickramasinha, chief executive officer, Brandix India Apparel City, told mediapersons here on Thursday.

Brandix is in talks with other foreign apparel companies to set up units in this SEZ. So far, six companies including Hong Kong-based Fountain Sets Holdings, Quamtum Clothing of the UK, and Mauritius-based CMT have taken lands in the SEZ to set up their units.

“We can accommodate another 28 major units in this zone, and are aiming to export $1.4 billion of apparels a year from the SEZ once its commences full-fledged operations. These companies would invest more than $1 billion to set up their units,” he said.
