BHEL commissions new generation transformer.
BHEL has commissioned its first indigenously developed phase-shifting transformer at Kothagudem Thermal Power Station in Telangana.
BHEL sees this as a major development, opening up a new line of business. Such transformers fit well into modern transmission networks and smart grids. The new generation transformer will be used to control and improve power flow between 400kV and 220kV networks in either direction by shifting the phase as the system requires.
Reposing faith in BHEL's capability to introduce new technology products, Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TSPGCL) - formerly, AP Genco - had placed an order with BHEL for the country's first phase shifting transformer, that improves transmission efficiency.
According to a statement, the BHEL's Transmission Business Group and Corporate BHEL have carried out system studies on substation design. These transformers are manufactured at its BHEL Bhopal unit.
