BHEL commissions 82.5-MW hydro power unit in Uttarakhand.

State-owned power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) today said it has commissioned a 82.5-megawatt unit at Shrinagar Hydro Electric Project in Uttarakhand.

'With the successful commissioning of the fourth unit of 82.5 MW, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has commissioned the 330-MW Shrinagar Hydro Electric Project in Uttarakhand,' the company said in a regulatory filing.

Significantly, all the four units of this project have been commissioned within a span of 60 days, it said.

The greenfield hydro electric project -- consisting of four units of 82.5 MW each --has been set up by Alaknanda Hydro Power Corp Ltd (GVK Group).

The project is located on the Alaknanda river (near the town of Shrinagar in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand), a major tributary of the Ganga river.

BHEL is currently executing hydro electric projects of around 4,000 MW which are under various stages of implementation, the filing said.
