APCCIF expects nod for CEZ on the East Coast.
The AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation (APCCIF) has exuded confidence that an announcement will be made in the Union Budget for developing at least one of the 14 Coastal Economic Zones (CEZ) proposed under the Sagarmala project in the East Coast.
President-elect of the federation G. Sambasiva Rao said recently that the policy announcement on the CEZ might include one each in the East and West coasts in the Union Budget to be presented on Wednesday.
CEZs are the backbone of the Modi government’s Sagarmala project and are billed as important engines of the Prime Minister’s 'Make in India' scheme.
The Central Government plans to have as many as 14 CEZs across major and non-major ports of India. He termed it as one of the big-ticket budgetary announcements.
Mr. Rao said that the government was inspired by the Chinese model with regard to the CEZs, which contributed significantly to the growth story of the Chinese economy. He said that the zones would give a major boost to port-led development, which was discussed in detail at the recently held CII Partnership Summit.
