Amaravati Railway Line Project: Land Acquisition to be Fast-Tracked.
The South Central Railway (SCR) has accelerated the Amaravati railway line project, initiating land acquisition in Khammam, NTR, and Guntur districts to connect Yerrupalem in Khammam to Nambur in Guntur via the capital city, Amaravati. The 57-km rail link, recently approved by the Union Cabinet with a budget of ₹2,245 crore, aims to boost connectivity for the capital region. While the Centre targets a four-year completion timeline, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has requested a faster, three-year timeline.
Land acquisition efforts began within weeks of the Cabinet’s approval, with nearly 80% of the required land already available through the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). Andhra Pradesh has offered to transfer this land once the alignment is finalized, while smaller land parcels in NTR district will be acquired under the Land Acquisition Act.
SCR plans to acquire around 60 acres in Yerrupalem and Kesireddypalle villages in Khammam, and has invited farmers to file objections within 30 days. The new rail line will feature nine stations between Yerrupalem and Nambur and includes a multi-modal cargo station at Paritala in NTR district, which is set to become a major freight hub.
The state government has also requested the Ministry of Railways to develop Amaravati railway station as a premier model station, offering up to 1,500 acres for its expansion and enhancement.
