Waaree Energies Ltd recently announced that its subsidiary, Waaree Energy Storage Solutions (Waaree ESS), has commenced operations at its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) container manufacturing facility at Rola in Gujarat, marking the first milestone in its planned 20 GWh integrated energy storage manufacturing roadmap.
The new facility has an annual manufacturing capacity of 5.15 GWh, upgraded from the originally planned 3.5 GWh through production debottlenecking and improvements in battery cell energy density. The company said the plant is equipped with Industry 4.0 technologies, including Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), intelligent material handling systems, automated assembly lines, and advanced testing and quality assurance infrastructure.
The facility will manufacture BESS containers for utility-scale projects as well as commercial and industrial applications. Waaree Energies, however, did not disclose the investment made in setting up the facility.
As part of its broader expansion plans, Waaree ESS intends to commission a 5.15 GWh battery pack manufacturing facility during the current financial year, also upgraded from the initially planned 3.5 GWh capacity. The company also plans to operationalise a 3.5 GWh lithium cell manufacturing facility, creating an integrated domestic energy storage ecosystem aimed at supporting India's clean energy transition and reducing dependence on imported technologies.
