VOC Port Authority Partners on Green Ammonia, Sustainability Initiatives via MoUs.
The V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Authority in Thoothukudi is stepping up its sustainability drive with new partnerships aimed at advancing green fuels, renewable energy infrastructure and ESG-led port operations.
The port has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AM Green Ammonia (India) Pvt Ltd for the development of a 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) green ammonia facility at Thoothukudi. The proposed project will include infrastructure for ammonia handling, storage and bunkering, along with pilot bunkering operations, safety systems and training programmes to support emerging green fuel logistics.
In a separate development, the port exchanged an MoU with Bureau Veritas (India) Pvt Ltd to collaborate on multiple sustainability initiatives. These include Green Port certification, emissions accounting, ESG reporting, safety validation and green bunkering practices. The partnership also envisions the establishment of a Centre of Excellence focused on green fuels and sustainability.
The initiatives are part of VOC Port Authority’s broader strategy to position Thoothukudi as a key hub for clean energy infrastructure and sustainable maritime operations, aligning with India’s wider decarbonisation goals in the port and shipping sector.
