UP Targets 2 GW-Plus Data Centre Capacity Addition by 2030, Says Adityanath.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set a target of developing more than 2 gigawatts (GW) of additional data centre capacity in the state by 2030, underscoring the growing importance of digital infrastructure in driving future economic growth.

During a review meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Data Centre Policy-2021 on Sunday, the chief minister directed officials to draft a new policy framework that is more investor-friendly, practical and aligned with industry expectations.

Adityanath said data, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure would form the backbone of the future economy, and stressed the need for the state to strengthen its position in the rapidly expanding sector.

"Data, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure are the key foundations of the future economy. Therefore, Uttar Pradesh must begin making concrete preparations now to assume a leading role in this sector," he said.

The proposed capacity expansion forms part of the state's broader strategy to attract investments in digital infrastructure and establish Uttar Pradesh as a major data centre hub in the country. The planned policy revamp is expected to focus on enhancing the ease of doing business and creating a more attractive ecosystem for investors and technology companies.
