Uber opens facility in city.

App-based taxi service Uber recently announced launch of operations at its Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, the company’s first such in Asia, and said 350 people were to be recruited for the facility by the end of 2017.

Speaking at the facility’s inauguration, a function in which Telangana’s IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and Transport Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Sultania participated, Uber India president Amit Jain said 150 full-time employees had been hired so far. The setting up of the centre follows the agreement that Uber signed with the Telangana government in July 2015 under which the company was committed to investing $50 million in the State.
