New Delhi: The Tourism Ministry has identified Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, Hampi in Karnataka and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh as among 20 mega destinations where infrastructure development should be taken up.

The other projects being taken up include the revitalisation of the Taj Mahal and development of the Varanasi-Sarnath, Puri-Bhubaneswar-Konark-Chilka and Bodhgaya-Rajgir-Nalanda circuits.

The Ministry will provide financial assistance of up to Rs 25 crore for development of a mega destination and Rs 50 crore for the development of mega circuits, an official statement issued.

Besides, the Ministry is also working with other central Ministries and concerned State governments to achieve convergence and synergy with other government programmes so that the impact of the investment on these destinations is maximised.
