TN's Textile Sector Boosted as Ministry Approves ₹1,894 Cr PM Mitra Park.
In a significant development set to revolutionize Tamil Nadu's textile sector, the Union Ministry of Textiles has approved a substantial ₹1,894 crore development plan for the PM Mitra Park in the state. This ambitious project, spanning 1,052 acres in Virudhunagar, is poised to become a hub for integrated textile manufacturing, with a particular focus on high-growth technical textiles.The integrated Mega Textile Park is designed to attract diverse units, including those specializing in technical textiles such as medical and automotive textiles, whic
h are valued for their functional properties rather than just aesthetics. This strategic focus aims to propel Tamil Nadu to the forefront of innovation in the textile industry.
According to a social media post by the Textiles Ministry, the park will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure. This includes a 15 million liters per day (MLD) common effluent treatment plant (CETP) with zero liquid discharge, ensuring environmental sustainability. A 5 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) will also be established.
To support the workforce, the park will offer modern amenities, including a 10,000-bed safe worker accommodation spread across 13 lakh sq ft, designed as "plug-and-play" and "built-to-suit" facilities. Construction of the park is on an accelerated timeline, with completion expected by September 2026.
The PM Mitra Park is anticipated to be a major economic catalyst for Tamil Nadu, projected to attract investments totaling ₹10,000 crore and generate approximately 1 lakh employment opportunities. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to fostering growth, innovation, and job creation within the country's textile industry.
