Titagarh-Ramkrishna Forgings Set to Roll Out Forged Railway Wheels from August.

The Titagarh Rail Systems–Ramkrishna Forgings consortium is set to begin commercial production of forged railway wheels at its greenfield manufacturing facility in Gummudipoondi, near Chennai, in August, marking a key milestone in India's railway manufacturing sector.

The project is expected to end Indian Railways' nearly seven-decade dependence on imported forged wheels from countries such as Ukraine, Russia and China. With the commissioning of the plant, India is also set to emerge as an exporter of forged railway wheels, with surplus production earmarked for overseas markets, according to sources.

The facility has an annual production capacity of 2.28 lakh forged wheels. Around 80,000 wheels will be supplied to Indian Railways each year, while the remaining output will be exported to international markets, sources familiar with the development said.
