Thane Municipal Corp's waterfront project receives Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority nod

After almost two years of its conceptualization, the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) proposed waterfront development project, along the 31-km Thane creek line, from Kopri to Gaimukh, got the green signal from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) recently, subject to a few conditions. The approval has come as a big boost for the civic body, which will now speed up the project. This alternate mode of transportation will help decongest roads and rail network and make commute easier.

The TMC is also considering developing shallow water parks, water sports, by-pass, jetties and mangrove trails and as many as twelve spots have been earmarked to be developed under the waterfront project. They include City Centre, Saket, Kharegaon, Balkum, Kolshet, Kavesar, Kasarwadvali, Mogharpada, Gaimukh, Reti Bundar, Mumbra and Diva.
