Techno Digital to Invest $170M in Chennai Data Center.
Techno Digital, a subsidiary of Techno Electric & Engineering, has officially opened its first data center in India, located at Sipcot IT Park in Chennai. The company plans to follow this with a second center in Kolkata.
Techno Digital has invested approximately $160 to $170 million in the Chennai facility as part of a larger $1 billion investment strategy across the country. According to Ankit Saraiya, the company's Director & CEO, the first phase of the Chennai center will create 200 to 250 direct and indirect jobs, with that number expected to grow to around 400 after all four phases are complete.
Saraiya noted that Chennai was chosen as the ideal location for their inaugural project because it is India's second-largest data center market. He highlighted the city's robust infrastructure, including numerous cable landing stations and submarine cables that connect India to global markets. Additionally, he cited the availability of local talent and the state’s progressive policies and access to 20-25 gigawatts of renewable power as key factors in the decision.
