Tata Steel Successfully Concludes Year-Long Thermal Energy Storage Trial.
Tata Steel, in collaboration with Kraftblock GmbH, is close to completing a year of successful operations of a thermal energy storage (TES) system at Sinter Plant No. 3 (SP3) at its Jamshedpur Works.
The TES system captures high-temperature waste heat generated during the sintering process—the thermal agglomeration of iron ore fines into sinter suitable for blast furnaces—which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. The stored heat is then efficiently used to warm process water required in the sintering stage, improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions.
This initiative underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainable operations and advancing clean energy technologies in its steel manufacturing processes.
