Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of the prominent Indian automaker Tata Motors, has proudly unveiled its inaugural car produced at the Sanand factory. The announcement comes after the company initiated production on the new assembly line within the factory, which was acquired from Ford India. This marks Tata Motors' second manufacturing facility in Gujarat, with a focus on producing both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and electric vehicles.
Shailesh Chandra, the Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, expressed enthusiasm about the successful retooling of the factory within a short span of 12 months. The upgraded facility is now equipped to handle a diverse range of existing products and forthcoming models. This development significantly enhances manufacturing capacity, providing the potential for 300,000 units annually, scalable to 420,000 units per annum.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd completed the acquisition of the Sanand plant in 2022, finalizing the unit transfer agreement on August 7, 2022, at a cost of ₹725.7 crore. The acquisition encompasses the plant's land, buildings, vehicle manufacturing facilities, as well as machinery and equipment.
In a move emphasizing continuity, Tata Motors extended employment offers to all eligible employees from Ford India Private Ltd (FIPL) manufacturing plant, ensuring that they could join TPEML with terms and benefits of service similar to their previous arrangements.
