Tata group company to lead Rs. 8,000-crore investment in GMR’s airports business.
GMR Infrastructure Limited has announced it has executed definitive agreements to bring in investment of Rs. 8,000 crore by a Tata Group company, an affiliate of GIC and SSG Capital Management into its airports business.
This Share Subscription, Purchase Agreement, Shareholders Agreement and other related transaction documents were executed with Tata group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited, an affiliate of GIC and SSG Capital Management to invest in GMR Airports Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure.
The proposed investment will consist of Rs. 1,000 crore equity infusion in GAL, and Rs. 7,000 crore towards purchase of GAL's equity shares from GIL and its subsidiaries. The company along with its affiliates (GMR) and the investors had signed a Binding Term Sheet for the transaction on March 26.
GMR will now focus on potential restructuring of the business by way of a demerger of its energy, highways, urban infrastructure and transportation businesses, leading to separation of its airport Business, subject to customary consents including corporate and regulatory approvals.
