Suzlon introduces S175 model, designed to unlock untapped low and medium wind energy sites across India.

Suzlon Energy recently launched India’s tallest wind turbine, the 5 MW S175, designed to boost energy generation from low to medium wind potential regions across the country.

The turbine was successfully commissioned at Vijayanagar in Karnataka, the company said in an official release. The S175 is being positioned as India’s first FDRE-ready (Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy) wind turbine, aimed at supporting more grid-stable renewable energy solutions, including hybrid power systems, round-the-clock (RTC) supply, and firm power applications.

According to the company, the new model builds on more than 30 years of operational experience from Suzlon’s installed fleet of 15.5 GW. The S175 features a 175-metre rotor, a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower, and a blade tip height of 247.5 metres, making it India’s tallest wind turbine.

Suzlon said the design allows the turbine to access stronger and more consistent wind speeds at higher altitudes, improving energy output and project economics, particularly in low and medium wind zones across India.
