Solar facility for urban health centre.
Philips has provided solar facility to the Urban Health Centre at Malpe in Udupi district. Srinivas Prasad, CEO of Philips Innovation Campus, Bangalore, inaugurated the facility at Malpe recently.
The centre, which is under the administrative care of the Department of Community Medicine of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, recently started screening activities for oral, breast and cervix cancer.
A press release by Manipal University said that in view of the urgency and importance of having uninterrupted power at Urban Health Centre, Manipal University and Philips signed a memorandum of understanding for the pilot project.
The facility is expected to generate nearly 12 units of power a day, and the consumption of the Malpe centre is around eight units a day, it said.
Quoting Prasad, the release said that this initiative can serve as a model solution which can be replicated in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and rural areas across the country.
