Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Plants Over 7 Lakh Trees in Maharashtra

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has reached a key environmental milestone by planting over 7 lakh trees across Maharashtra. A notable achievement in this initiative was the planting of the 100,000th tree at the newly developed Green Future Park near its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (CSN) manufacturing facility, aimed at enhancing the oxygen levels in the Shendra Industrial area.

According to a statement from Skoda, this large-scale tree plantation effort is a part of SAVWIPL’s broader sustainability agenda, which includes several green projects. These initiatives include the complete decarbonization of the CSN plant, now fully powered by renewable energy, and a rooftop solar power system generating 18.5 MWp at the Chakan facility, offsetting nearly 30% of the plant's carbon emissions.

SAVWIPL has also focused on coastal ecosystem restoration, having restored 100 hectares of degraded mangrove forests in Alibaug by planting 580,000 trees. In drought-prone villages, the company has expanded water sustainability efforts, establishing rainwater harvesting systems with a capacity of over 600 million liters.

Other significant projects include the planting of 25,000 trees at Oxygen Park and 11,500 trees at Green Hub, both aimed at boosting local green cover. The Green Future Park, with 63,500 trees, is another major initiative contributing to these efforts.

These projects are expected to have a long-term positive impact on carbon reduction, ecosystem restoration, and local temperature regulation as the trees mature over the next 5 to 7 years. SAVWIPL’s efforts align with its 'goTOzero' sustainability framework, which aims to reduce the company’s environmental footprint while promoting ecological balance.
